NMC 是一种介于UPS和网络的设备，它可以从UPS获得状态信息并且发出指令。NMC支持两种协议－简易网络管理协议(SNMP)和超文件传输协议(HTTP)以供使用者进入。通过SNMP的网络管理站(NMS)和网页浏览器，用户可以获得UPS的状态信息、发出指令至UPS并且通过网络设定NMC。

NMC 也为不同的操作系统提供关机软件。不同操作系统的关机软件可以通过网络连接至NMC，并且利用特殊的通信方式与NMC卡通讯。当UPS发生异常以及用户设置的条件满足时，NMC会发出关机消息至装有关机软件的客户端。关机软件根据自身的设定进行对应的关机的程序，从而避免因电力问题而造成客户端和服务器的不正常关机。
